Playing your scenarios with the 1st or 2nd Encounter
If you only have the 1st or 2nd Encounter versions of Wolfenstein 3D, you will need to do a little preparation before you can play a scenario. WolfEdit's author Greg Ewing has a small application called Wolf FKEY Installer which will add an extra command to your 1st or 2nd Encounter, so that you can tell it to open scenario files.
Before using Wolf FKEY Installer, first make sure you have a backup of the original version of your Wolfenstein 3D (just in case anything goes wrong). Then launch Wolf FKEY Installer. It will ask you to find the copy of Wolfenstein 3D you want to patch.
If all goes well, you will get confirmation that the installation was successful.
Now you're ready to play a scenario! Launch Wolfenstein 3D, and some time during the title screens, press Command-Shift-9 (hold down the Command and Shift keys and press 9). A moment or two later you should get a file opening dialogue. Find the scenario file you want to play, open it, and you're in business.
A couple of things to be careful of:
1) Wolfenstein doesn't listen to the keyboard when it's fading a screen in or out, so it may take a moment or two before it responds to the command key. Give it time - don't keep hitting the key, or strange things might happen.
2) To switch to a different scenario, you'll have to quit and restart Wolfenstein. Using the command key a second time won't work and may cause a crash.
3.) To play a saved game: First launch Wolfenstein 3D, pick the scenario from which you saved the game, and then open the saved game.
Note: You'll be able to open scenarios that are file type WolfEdit or Wolfenstein with the FKEY.
